Buying
Choose firm and brightly colored carrots. This vegetable is usually sold without its
top (stem and leaves). If tops are present, they should be firm and well colored. Avoid
soft and sprouting carrots, as well as those with moist patches.

Serving Ideas
Carrots can be used in an endless variety of ways, they can be featured in everything
from appetizers to desserts and are even used to make wine. Raw carrots are eaten on their
own or used in salads and appetizers. They are also used in baking to make cakes and
cookies. Cooked carrots make an excellent vegetable side dish, either on their own or
combined with other vegetables. They are often served with a cream sauce, glazed, or
simply dressed with a little butter. Carrot tops, which are very rich in minerals, can be
added to soups, salads and sauces.
Storing
Carrots have a good keeping qualities. Stored in the refrigerator, they will keep for 1
to 3 weeks, but is it is best to wrap them first, as they lose moisture quickly when
exposed to air. Place them in perforated plastic bag or wrap them in a paper towel to
prevent the formation of condensation, which causes them to spoil.
